Crystals exist in numerous shapes and sizes, here is a guide to Carving Shapes and what they mean. This is Part 1 of my Crystal Shape guide so watch out for Part 2 (Sacred Geometry Shapes) and Part 3 (Natural Formation Shapes).
Wands & Points
Wands are cylinder shaped crystals with one or more pointed ends. They may be naturally or artificially moulded into single or double terminations (points). These are great for focusing energy or directing the energies of the crystal into the aura or chakra.
Vogel Points
These are quartz crystals carefully cut into 8 facets, each at an angle of 51 degrees, 51 minutes and 51 seconds. It must be doubly terminated or cut and polished to this shape. The precise angle of a Vogel crystal creates a spiralling movement of energy flow that manifests desires. They have the same geometry as the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Egg Shapes
Crystal eggs are usually made by polishing crystals into the oval shape of eggs. They may be used for feng shui, healing, gridding, and decor. They can help shield, heal or strengthen the aura, channel the energies of renewal, personal transformation and support new beginnings.
Heart Shapes
These are often shaped and polished into the heart shape with a pointed bottom and curved arches on the top sides. They represent love, care, support, guidance, protection, healing and transformation. They can be charged with the seed mantra of the Heart Chakra – YAM.
Crescent Moon Shapes
Crystals cut or polished into the shape of a crescent moonwork well with crystals and zodiac signs associated with the moon. Once these crystals are cleansed and charged with the full moon they help with transformation, success, wisdom, intuition, growth and inner peace.
Teardrop Shapes
The teardrop shape is usually polished into a pear shape for pendants and rings as the shape is believed to spread positive energies.
Angel Shapes
Crystals carved into the shape of an angel can anchor angelic energies, helping you connect with different angels or your guardian angels. They come in various sizes, from display pieces for your home to ones small enough to carry in your pocket or bag.
Skull Shapes
These can be quite realistic carved into the shape of a human skull. They can help connect with your ancestors, guides or other spiritual teachers and masters. They can also help with healing, protection and channelling guidance or ancient knowledge.
Pendulum Shapes
Crystals polished or naturally terminated on one end are used to find answers known as pendulum dowsing. Geometrically, the pendulum can be a teardrop shape with sharper sides and a pointed end.
Towers
Different from crystal wands, crystal towers may be natural or manmade. They are usually the same width from the base to a point tip. They work great for clearing negativity in large spaces. Most crystals can be carved into this shape.
Obelisks
This is an ancient symbol used for spiritual and architectural reasons. It is an elongated crystal shape with four sides, a flat base and a pointed end. They amplify and focus healing energies into chakra locations like wands do.
Flame Shapes
An elongated shape with a broad and narrow end resembling a flame. They are smooth on all sides and always with a flat base and point on the top. They are used for activating the Fire element energy during spiritual rituals.
Freeform Shapes
Natural and polished crystals that don’t resemble any geometric shape are called amorphous or freeform crystals. Each crystal has a unique shape and helps users break free and find their most authentic selves. Some naturally occurring freeforms are ammolite, fluorite, quartz, amber, malachite and obsidian.
Sphere Shapes
Crystal Spheres are cut and polished to be perfectly round. They radiate energy smoothly and evenly in all directions. They can also slow down and neutralise harmful or unbalanced energies. They are connected to the earth, other planets and the moon. They help open the third eye chakra and assist in developing clairvoyance.
Palm Stones
Most palm stones are 1-2 inch in size and shaped round or oval, they can come larger or smaller. Most crystal users have them as they can carry them in pockets. Another way to use them is by sandwiching them between your palms and meditating on your intention. They are good for healing, chakra cleansing, strength and support.
Thumb Stones / Worry Stones
These are smaller than palmstones but have a concave inside. Also known as Worry Stones they help with stress and anxiety. They can also be used during meditating, praying, visualising and chanting.
Tumblestones
These are usually small and rounded with a size 20-30mm but may be smaller or larger than this. They are so versatile, they are used in reiki, chakra healing, feng shui, crystal grids, altars and cleansing/charging rituals.
