What does it mean when your crystal breaks or is lost?

broken crystalIt may happen from time to time but don’t be disheartened. You may not like it but just like glass, eggs and our hearts, crystals often break. I know, its pretty painful. Watching as your precious crystal falls with no way of stopping it. It can on occasion be sitting perfectly still in your hand and ‘crack’ it splits in two.

Its devastating, especially if you work with that crystal often, its like losing a friend. I have chatted to customers over the years who have been devastated by their crystal breaking, this is why it has prompted me to write this blog, one of my customers popped by last week and told me how sad she was that her crystal had broken on her after years of use.

But you don’t have to cry over cracked crystals!

It may not even be your fault the crystal broke in the first place so give yourself a break. Read on about why crystals break and what to do with them afterwards.

Why Crystals Break?

Sometimes when a crystal breaks, its merely because you’ve dropped it but there are many other reasons as to why crystals break, crack or chip.

  • celestiteSome crystals are very fragile and break/chip easily because of their structure such as selenite and celestite (see right).
  • A change in temperature can affect the strength of a crystal.
  • Exposure to a frequency in the environment can cause a crystal to crack.
  • It could also be the crystal hasn’t been stored properly.
  • Another reason it breaks itself is to release unwanted energy if it hasn’t been cleansed regularly.
  • If a crystal is lost, or damaged every time you use it, it could mean that the energy of that crystal is not compatible with your own energy.  Energy is made up of particular vibrations and if they become too strong, it can cause damage.  When a crystal is worked with for a while, it is put into a higher frequency and if it isn’t cleared, cleansed and allowed to recharge, it becomes overwhelmed (just like we can).  They will still work, but it is a clear sign that they need a rest.
  • Lastly, one of the main reasons your crystal breaks or you lose it is simply because you don’t need that energy in your life anymore, the crystal has done its job.

What to do with Broken Crystals

Once you’ve dealt with the pain of having a broken crystal the next question is “can I still use it?” and the answer is……. Yes, most of the time!

My personal attitude to this is, it came out of the ground rough, it has been messed about with, polished and shaped and it still has its original energy. Personally I wouldn’t use glue to put it back together (but that is my opinion), if it’s a clean break I would just continue to use the best piece.

Finally, always make sure you remember to cleanse your crystals regularly. In the same way we need to look after ourselves by cleansing and recharging, our crystals are just the same. Check out my blog on How to Safely Cleanse Crystals.
